National Presidential Elections remain in plan according president Kiir

The President of the Republic of South Sudan has renewed his assurance to holding general elections in December 2026, ensuring that preparations remain on track.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit stated while meeting on Thursday with the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission, Prof. Abednego Akok Kacoul on review of the Commission’s ongoing plans.
Prof. Akok briefed the President on nationwide voter registration and civic education programs, set to launch simultaneously across all 102 constituencies in the 10 States and 3 Administrative Areas.
The NEC discussed with the head of the state about operational issues, including constituency demarcation and logistical planning.
Kiir stressed the importance of keeping momentum in preparations and confirmed that the government will provide the necessary resources and logistical support to ensure smooth and credible elections.
Meanwhile, Prof. Akok expressed gratitude for the President’s engagement, describing it as a key source of encouragement for the Commission in its work to deliver orderly and credible elections for the people of South Sudan.
