The National Alliance of Political Parties and its Leadership Council have unanimously withdrawn confidence in their Chairperson, Kornelio Kon Ngu, accusing him of violating the Alliance’s Charter and Code of Conduct.

The decision was announced in Juba by Paulihno Lokudu Obede, Leader of the United South Sudan Party and Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria State, who spoke on behalf of the National Alliance leadership.

Obede said the Leadership Council reviewed what it described as recent conduct and public statements by Cornelio and concluded that they were inconsistent with the principles and rules governing the Alliance.

“The Leadership Council and the leadership of the Alliance have unanimously withdrawn confidence in our Chairperson, Kornelio Kon Ngu, for violations of the Alliance Charter and Code of Conduct,” Obede said.

The Alliance accused Ngu of making unilateral appointments, allegedly commercializing nominations and positions, appointing relatives and individuals the leadership considers unqualified, and making decisions without proper consultation.

The leadership also alleged that he threatened or coerced officials and introduced compulsory deductions, which the statement said could reach 20 percent.

Obede further accused the Chairperson of making statements that allegedly incited citizens against state institutions and of publicly praising destructive acts, including what the Alliance described as the glorification of the burning of the Blue House.

“We cannot remain silent when institutions are being undermined, when there are threats against officials, and when acts of violence or destruction are celebrated,” he said.

The Alliance has called for a thorough investigation into the allegations, particularly claims of incitement and statements allegedly encouraging or glorifying violence.

The leadership has also called on President Salva Kiir Mayardit to revoke Ngu’s appointment to the Revitalized Transitional National Legislative Assembly.

The Alliance further declared that any correspondence issued by him in his capacity as Chairperson would no longer be recognized as representing the National Alliance.

“Any correspondence from Kornelio Kon Ngu purporting to speak on behalf of the National Alliance shall not be recognized by the leadership and shall be considered null and void,” Obede said.

The leadership also announced the immediate dismissal from Alliance activities of newly recruited political parties that it said were not signatories to the Revitalized Peace Agreement. Among the parties referenced were the National Renaissance Party and the Social Progressive Party.

The Alliance additionally rejected any nomination or endorsement of Ngu as its presidential candidate, saying such a decision would require endorsement by the Leadership Council and compliance with its qualification procedures.

The political grouping said the measures are intended to preserve its unity and protect the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

It has reaffirmed its commitment to working with signatory parties to create a conducive environment for the planned December 2026 elections.

The National Alliance of Political Parties comprises the South Sudan National Party, South Sudan Democratic Front, United South Sudan Party, Communist Party of South Sudan, Popular Congress Party, National Democratic Alliance, Democratic Union Party, and Peace, Unity and Reconciliation.
